Following my previous post on Protech PT 2s of New Zealand at www.nzcivair.blogspot.co.nz/2013/09/protech-pt-2s-of-new-zealand.html , I have received some further photos from the Sport Flying magazine archives which I will post here:
The Hawkes Bay AACA Chapter Protech fleet gathered. From left ZK-PTU, ZK-PTS and ZK-PTT. The location of the photo is unknown.
Charlie Janes PT 2 ZK-PTU on a remote East Coast beach.
And in the Kaimanawa's beside his hut. I think this is the hut that he constructed from materials transported by his Jodel D 11 ZK-EFK.

This is the hut that Charlie renovated beside an airstrip up the Te Hoe River in inland northern Hawkes Bay. See the cover picture on his last book "Possum on a Cold Tin Roof" for almost the same scene, but in the depths of winter.
ReplyDeleteHut and airstrip was built by Neville and Kathy Smith back in the eighties during the live deer Capturing days. They operated static landtrap also used a helicopter. Flew deer from this Strip and anther strip on Waiau River side of block in 2 pipercubs. When prices drop for live deer they moved on. Charlie moved in mid nighties
