Back in 1938 the Rearwin Aeroplane Company (NZ) Ltd imported three Rearwin 9000L Sportsters. These were allocated ZK-AGQ, ZK-AGR and ZK-AGS. ZK-AGQ went to the New Plymouth Aero club but was impressed into the RNZAF on 07-10-1942 and became NZ599 and was test flown as such on 25-11-1942.
Post WW11 it went back to the New Plymouth Aero Club under the new registration of ZK-ALF from 31-07-1946. From May 1951 onward it had three private owners until being acquired by John Galpin of Pongakawa on 30-05-1977. It was withdrawn and stored at Te Puke until returning to our register on 26-11-2009 with T Galpin.
On 30-11-2009 it reverted to its original ZK-AGQ markings.
The photo above taken in April 1977 is from the CMM collection and shows ZK-ALF.
Below is a recent shot from Tauranga by Paul Kilsby showing the immaculate restoration of this aircraft back to its original ZK-AGQ marks.
