Things are happening at Kaipara Flats airfield these days with Bruce Lynch's big new hangar now finished with his Tiger Moth now inside, my Jodel D 9 in the Aero Club hangar and my fellow microlight colleague Brien O'Brien now has his ex Dargaville Aero Club Texan ZK-TXN2 hangared in Jim Schmidt's hangar (as well as the earthworks for 8 new hangar houses well underway).
So when Brien enquired this morning if I wanted to fly up to Dargaville for lunch with him I jumped at the chance!

Kaipara Flats airfield is drying off...
We flew out over the Mahurangi Estuary
Then up the East Coast past Omaha and here over Leigh.
and Goat Island. The we cut across to Dargaville at Waipu.
Our Texan back at what used to be home at Dargaville. Very observant blog readers may note one small difference.
After lunch we headed down the West Coast towards the North Head of the Kaipara.
That's the North Head lighthouse down there (just above the reflection of a fastener). Click to enlarge to see it better.
Then as we crossed back over the Kaipara there were a couple of aircraft on the beach. I couldn't figure out what they were.
Thanks for a great day Brien!
