Sad Sights at Ardmore 10-8-2015

The sad result of the tornado that struck Ardmore on 18 July can still be seen at the airport.  The following threee badly damaged aircraft are/were all owned by the Auckland Aero Club.

Cessna C 162 Skycatcher ZK-VCG has bad damage to the tail.

Cessna C 162 Skycatcher ZK-AMN2  has bad damage to the wings and other areas.

And Cessna C 172N Skyhawk ZK-JAZ is much more damaged than a first glance shows with wing, fuselage and tail damage.  Check out the bent wing strut.

I understand that all three aircraft are likely to be written off, although ZK-VCG might be repaired.

  1. Sad about JAZ.
I did both my 172 rating and night rating in her and then later on took her around the South Island.
    Nicest 172 I ever flew.

  3. Put VCG's wings on AMN's Fuselage...

  4. Two different owners here. I believe that VCG is privately owned and leased to the club, while they own AMN.

  5. If you think engineers are expensive, try leaving your planes off the tiedowns.....

  6. Some might be happy the Skycatchers are written off. Wonder why they are no longer manufactured? Wonder why they were not secured? God works in mysterious ways.

  7. Think you guys will find they were all tied down securely, stop speculating.and if you think aircraft engineers are expensive, maybe look at the parts prices and availability and factor that in to your insurance companies reasoning, I think you will soon realise why they are potentially written off.

  9. WIth a lot of hard work and love you will all be pleased to know that JAZ will grace the skies over Auckland once again after a much deserved rebuild by dedicated aviators.
