In commemoration of Armistice Day, today being the 99th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice to end World War 1, I post the most recent magnificent creation of The Vintage Aviator:
The Royal Aircraft Factory RE 8 exact reproduction ZK-REK
is marked up as B2293
and coded as 17 of 52 Squadron of the Royal Flying Corps from early 1918.
Wingnut Wings details some of the history of this aircraft with a photo of the original, showing it after it was forced down intact behind German lines by Fredrich Altemeier of Jasta 24 in February 1918.
Thanks Brett for the excellent photos in the spectacular late evening light.
