Photographs from the Des Smith collection.

Seen at Hastings in the late 1950's is the Piper Cub ZK-BKP (c/n 18-5066) of Hawkes Bay Aerial Top Dressing Company. It was an Airwork import, gaining its CofA on 12-09-1956 for delivery the same day. It was damaged whilst force landing on a road in the Manawatu Gorge on 19-12-1964 with its registration being cancelled on 03-06-1965.
Two photos of the Cessna 180 ZK-BQA (c/n 32287) of Reeves Transport(Air Services) Ltd taken at Hastings between 1956 and late 1958. It went to Airwork (NZ) Ltd in November of 1958 for export to Australia where it became VH-BBM2 but was cancelled by September 1960.

Below is the De Havilland DHC-2 Beaver ZK-BXJ (c/n 1054) as seen at Waipukurau in 1969. This Beaver had been delivered to the US Army as an L-20 on 23-02-1957 and was convereted to civil use in the US before arriving in NZ at De Havilland NZ in 1965. Its first flight in NZ was on 07-10-1965 and it was delivered to Waipukurau the following day. It was damaged at the steep Tutira airstrip on 02-06-1973 and its registration was cancelled the following month. It went over to Australia and served there as VH-IMC with Aerial Agriculture until being exported to Canada in 1996. It is still currently active there as C-FYNT.
