A real surprise for me was to see the Airdrome Aeroplanes Nieuport 24 Replica ZK-MNR (c/n 1642) of Tony Scarlett. It features a Rotec radial which will be enclosed in the red cowling seen resting on the floor. I was imported from Indiana to replace Tony's pink Murphy Renegade ZK-PIG2.
Delivered into Ashburton at 2100 hours on 08-02-2013 by its new owner was the Taylorcraft BC-12D Twosome ZK-BSW (c/n 7512). First registered in NZ on 15-02-1957 with W J Foley at Taihape. Since November of 2011 it has been with Jade Atkinson and was based on a private strip southwest of Nelson.
A static display aircraft from the Ashburton Aviation Museum outside for the weekend was the Zlin Z-37T ZK-DOZ (c/n 010). This was assembled at Rangiora and flew in November 2002 for the Aerial Sowing Group. In February of 2005 it was with the McCombie Trust and from 28-08-2007 was listed to the Flying Ag Co Ltd of Alexandra. It was cancelled on 04-02-2009 with a time expired (3000 hours) airframe and moved to Ashburton later in 2009.
