Ben from Wilderness Wings dropped into Wanaka on Friday and found this Beech C17-B Staggerwing at the fuel pumps.
VH-UXP c/n 108 was build in Wichita Kansas in November of 1936 and was crated out in the same crate as c/n 107 which became ZK-AEU.
Very briefly it was initially listed as N16449 in the States in late 1936 before being shipped to Australia to be registered as VH-UXP on 02-02-1937.
It was impressed into the RAAF as A39-3 in August 1942 and returned to its civilian VH-UXP in April of 1952.
It was purchased by its present owner Cam Hawley in July of 2005 and shipped to Mandeville in May of 2007 for a major rebuild.
It first flew from there on 12-05-2012 and has been seen, certainly in the Southern skies, since then.
Nice.
