As you follow State Highway 1 North, there are a few aviation artifacts that you come across along the way:
Hughes 369HS ex ZK-HKK outside The Deer Story Museum at Manakau.
DC 3 ex ZK-APK at Mangaweka.
DC 3 Viewmaster ex ZK-CAW at McDonald' s in Taupo.
And this Mil Mi 8 helicopter ex YS-1006P at Wairakei.
Actually, with the Taupo bypass, the last two may not technically be on State Highway 1 any more.
I didn't realise it was HKK, thanks Sir Minty! Mrs Handbag was kind enough to let me stop on the way home from our mini-honeymoon to take pictures.
