Tauranga

The NAC reunion at Classic Flyers in Tauranga attracted a number of interesting vintage aircraft including locally based DH89B Dominie ZK-AKU, which unfortunately due to maintenance issues couldnt offer the intended scenic flights,  and from the same hangar Tiger Moth ZK-BSN.  The immaculate non flying Heron ZK-BBM in full NAC colours gave an insight to a long gone era.    Attendees were able to take scenic flights in Air Chathams DC3 ZK-AWP.

Elsewhere on the field were visiting Opotiki Helicopters' Hughes 369HS ZK-HGS and local Tauranga Helicopter Training Guimbal Cabri ZK-IIF.

  1. Hi Richard

Thank you for your posting about the NAC event but I should clear up for you some details. Neither BSN (nor PBY evident in your Heron photo) were involved in the re-union and AWP wasn't offering scenic flights. I gather BSN was only outside to provide access to AKU. AWP brought 28 reunion passengers from Mangere, returning them afterwards. It did move during the event once but only to refuel and return. It will resume regular local $99.00 scenics in October and we hope to surpass the 829 pax number for this year and top 1000 pax. Anyone reading this who wants a flight or to book a friend group can ring 07 572 4000. Mention should be made of ex NAC Gipsy Moth ZK-ADT attending, flown up from Bridge Pa on Tuesday by Jan Chisum for the re-union.

  2. Super long shot: any chance of an airframe history post for ZK-HGS? *crosses fingers*
