Plugging into the southerly on final for 20 at Christchurch this afternoon was the Aerospatiale-Alenia ATR72-212A ZK-MCB3 (c/n 598). It has been with the firm since 16-11-1999.
The earlier ZK-MCB's were a Britten-Norman BN2A-8 Islander - which was used on ski trials on the Tasman Glacier in 1974. It snuck off to New Guinea in mid 1982 and crashed there in mid 1983.
The second ZK-MCB was a Hawker Siddeley HS748 and got a mention at http://nzcivair.blogspot.co.nz/search?q=mcb
Are you sure this is a -200 series ATR, I would have thought it was a -500?
ReplyDeleteAll fifteen of them are on the CAA list as "ATR-GIE ATR 72-212A".

And it is amazing what a coat of paint will do.
But I am happy to be corrected .

The 212A is marketed as an ATR 72-500
ReplyDeleteThe register also has the ZK-MVx series of aircraft listed as -212A and they are -600 aircraft. Interesting.

ReplyDeleteThe -500 or -600 designator is a marketing name only, and both are model ATR72-212A.
ReplyDeleteAnyone see or hear the jet above banks pen this evening? Apparently very fast and low multiple passes over Mcqueens valley, by the description I was given, I'm guessing it's an L-39 Albatros.
ReplyDeleteI did see the Blunty ZK-VPR being refuelled about mid afternoon. Could well have been it.
