A weekend visit to Matamata revealed both the Piako Gliding Club and New Zealand Aviation/ Middle Earth Flying School busy, despite the gusty conditions.
The former was using the colourful highly modified Pawnee 260 ZK-CNC, while another 2017 addition to the growing NZ Aviation fleet is 172N ZK-JEZ.
Thanks for the post Richard, curious,4 blade prop and huge exhaust/muffler system . Did you manage to hear it towing. ? Thoughts on it,s noise level ??
ReplyDeleteHi Allan No it didnt fly when we were there but I see there is a video of it flying as below.

That ZK-CNC is the second iteration, imported by Drake Aviation in 2014.
ReplyDeleteThe original Pawnee ZK-CNC originally topdressed with Harts out of Christchurch before glider towing from 1975 and met its end while so employed in 1979.
Note the small"2" beside the registration confirming flyernzl's note. BZA is being retired after nearly 50 years with Piako Gliding Club. The original CNC crashed in the Ardmore Training College grounds on 6 Oct 1979. I well remember the occasion; my wife an I were watching and it was also her birthday! Meanwhile the owner of it, Auckland Gliding Club, raised a glass (or two) on 20 October for its stablemate ZK-CEB's 50 years of service. Peter Layne
DeleteIf you go to the Piako Gliding Club Facebook page there is a video of it in action. It doesn't sound all that quiet to me despite the huge muffler.
ReplyDeleteHey guys you covered old CNC pretty well a while ago.
