What do you do on a fantastic flying day when you are confined within the Auckland boundaries? Well today I flew down the North Shore transit lane which is under the Whenuapai Control Zone down the East Coast Bays of North Shore, from Long Bay in the North to Cheltenham and North Head when you get to the Waitemata Harbour. I flew at just under 1,000 feet. The views were spectacular and here are some of them:
Red Beach and the Whanagaparaoa Peninsula with the North Shore bays in the distance.
That's the tor of Torbay down there with browns Bay coming up.
Off North Head at the end of the transit lane with Devonport off the wingtip.
Looking up the Waitemata Harbour to Auckland City
Turning for home with the city and harbour bridge in the distance (click to enlarge)
Heading North over the Hauraki Gulf out by Rangitoto with Belmont and Devonport down there, and Auckland City behind and if you look real hard you can see the Manakau Harbour off in the distance.
Off Takapuna heading back North, with Lake Pupuke in full view.
An excellent flight!
