Dawn arrival at Omarama

On Easter Monday Phillip Kyle was having breakfast at the Countrytime Hotel at Omarama, when he observed the graceful flyover of the airfield by the WW1 flight (ex Wanaka airshow) just prior to the sun rising over the hills !
Whilst downwind, they were against the darkened hills. It looked rather chilly for the pilots.
The sun rose above the northern hills soon after landing.
Quite special.
Phillip took these pics of the Fokker DR.1 Triplane ZK-JOG (above) and the Fokker D.VII ZK-FOD (below).

Kerry Connor and Bevan Dewes flight planning beside the Pfalz ZK-FLZ.
Sopwith Triplane ZK-SOP below -about to head over to Ashburton.
The Cessna 180H ZK-DBX support aircraft is lurking in the background.
