Oxford 'Wings With Wheels' last Sunday. #2

 The annual Lions Club Oxford Wheels With Wings fly in on a private airstrip on the outskirts of town took place last Sunday January the 18th.

Over twenty aircraft arrived in less than perfect weather.

The old familiar MacDonald Syndicate Auster 5D ZK-BGU c/n 1757 attracted a good number of viewers, which required a certain amount of patients to get a people free photograph.

Karl West of West Aero Engineering with his Cessna 180A ZK-BVG c/n 50068 was center stage and received much attention from the locals.

The only Piper PA-14 Family Cruiser on the NZ aircraft register is ZK-BZL c/n 14-132 - previously mentioned HERE

It joined its current listed owner CNC Aviation of Eyrewell in December of 2023.

Roy Hill's real tidy Fletcher FU24-950 ZK-EGS c/n 241 has been based nearby since late 2024.

Prior to this it has been North Island based since its creation. 

It has received multi mentions previously HERE

The average age of these four aircraft is knocking on 69 years.

With ZK-EGS being the pup at a young 49 years.

My late Friday Pie Run.

 I dropped into Rangiora today - Saturday the 26th - for my Friday Pie Run and found a couple of aircraft worthy of more attention.

Surprise catch was the Roy Hill Fletcher FU24-950 c/n 241 ZK-EGS. 

Rumours from the 'Club House' are that it has been sold to a North Island operator.

Over from Hokitika for the day was the Robinson R44 Raven II ZK-HLI8 c/n 13075.

This came in new to NZ to become ZK-IZA from 24-11-2010 - with a re-registration to ZK-IWF on 09-05-2012. As such it joined Buttle Properties 05 Ltd of Darfield from 10-10-2016.

They re-registered it as ZK-HLI8 a week later. 

From 20-02-2019 it changed from the Company name to Charles and Susan Buttle.

Current operator, Henry Adams Contracting Ltd of Hokitika took it on from 30-11-2023.

Tie-Upp Aviation's latest addition is this Cessna A152 Aerobat ZK-TIE c/n A1520917 which joined them on 28-01-2025 after importation from the USA.

I believe it has a full IFR instrument fit out.

Rangiora surprise this afternoon

 Pacific Aerospace Cresco 08-600 ZK-LTB c/n 022 outside its hangar.

It has featured many times on this blog.

The surprise catch for the day was the NZAI Fletcher FU24-950 ZK-EGS c/n 241.

This was first registered to N.Z.A.I at Hamilton on 12-07-1977 for listing to Air Services (Wairarapa) Ltd at Masterton on 07-12-1977. It changed tie down points at Masterton from 11-01-1978 when it joined Air Contracts (1969) Ltd.  On 15-08-1980 it was listed back with Air Services (1979) Ltd.

Super Air Ltd of Hamilton took it over from 01-11-2006.

It flew into Rangiora yesterday, minus its Super Air title, via Blenheim and Palmerston North and points further north.

Ownership passed from Super Air Ltd to Roy Hill of Oxford on 29-10-2024.

Roy also operates the Gippsland GA-200 ZK-MAW and the Piper PA-28-140 ZK-CUD.

Whanganui Wednesday by Handbag

Handbag was at Whanganui on Wednesday awaiting the arrival of the DH84 Dragon ZK-AXI on its passage through to the Nelson 100 year anniversary.

Alas it did not stop at Whanganui but went on to Paraparaumu.

So instead we get this selection of

The Whanganui Aero Club Cessna 150 ZK-CTF c/n 15067228.

Super Air Fletcher FU24 954 ZK-EGS c/n 251, flown by Tom Stewart calls in for fuel.

Mid West (NZ) Helicopters Ltd's Eurocopter AS 350 B2 ZK-HFA c/n 9000 gets a wash down.

Schweizer 269C-1 ZK-HFW c/n 0238 is one of the New Zealand Helicopter Training Academy fleet.

A long shot of the two King Airs. The B200 ZK-PMJ c/n BB-1600 and King Air C90A ZK-MKG c/n LJ-1367 both of Air Wanganui Commuter.

Maule ZS-PLT at Parakai.

Very late last year a container arrived at Parakai (West Auckland) from South Africa containing the Maule MXT-7-180A Comet ZS-PLT (c/n 21025C).

A decode of that model tells us that the =

M is for Maule.

X = small fuselage in the model range.

T= nosewheel "Trigear".

7 = the model range.

180 = horsepower of engine.

A= is for fixed pitch propeller.

This airframe gained its US airworthiness certificate on 25-09-1997 as N26ES and was certified to E.G.S. Reports of Wilmington Delaware on 10-12-1997.

Its US registration was cancelled on 01-09-2004 as exported to South Africa.

It entered the South African register as ZS-PLT on 09-03-2005 with Pegma 148 Investment CC before moving on to Andrew Rossaak of Zenzeleni Farming CC.

Andrew has shifted to New Zealand and will place the Maule on the ZK register as soon as all the formalities are complete.

It is being assembled by Bryn Lockie at Leading Edge Aviation Ltd.

Sunday aftternoon at NZRT

A few minutes at Rangiora early Sunday afternoon caught the Aerospool Dynamic WT9 ZK-DYK2 (D314/2009) scurrying out.

This Dynamic was originally registered as ZK-FUZ2 on 08-10-2009 to Bridget and David Jones of Picton.

 It was sold to Kevin Slattery of Rangiora as recently as 02-08-2016 and was re-registered as ZK-DYK on 09-08-2016.

As a matter of interest Keven's previous Dynamic ZK-EWW was sold the other way - to Picton.

The Best Off Skyranger Vmax ZK-MAI3  (c/nSKR0308388) is in the process of receiving some tender loving care from its latest owner Mike Dimmmock.

One that has come out of the woodwork - so to speak - is this TEAM Hi-Max project which was started by Jeffery Bryant about twenty five years ago. The wings and basic fuselage had been done but for reasons various it was never completed. It was acquired recently from the rafters of a nearby hangar by Graeme Main and work is now underway with the help of Chris Pennell to complete this project.

You may remember that Jeff has operated the Piper Colt ZK-BSL, Jodel DR1051 ZK-JOD, Pterodactyl Ascender ZK-EYZ. Solo Wings Windlass Aquilla ZK-MDM and the Bernard Webb Spyder Monoplane ZK-WEB and probably others that have slipped my mind.

It is in good hands because Graeme Main has owned/operated/built the Ultralight Flight Phantom ZK-EGS, Thruster Gemini ZK-FLS, Kolb Twinstar ZK-FVK, Rand KR-2 ZK-KRJ, Facet Sapphire ZK-SAP, Pulsar ZK-KEN, Skyranger ZK-MAI, Jodel D.18 ZK-JPK and ZK-JVG, the Bobcat ZK-JKI, plus the Alpi 200 ZK-MGK.

The Canterbury Aero Club were out in force today (competitions).

Here we see the Robin ZK-VCD leading two Cherokees to the holding point whilst another departs to the East.

Fletcher ZK-EGS

Normally domiciled at Masterton is Super Air's FU24 Fletcher ZK-EGS, so it was nice to see her visiting Ardmore 31 January receiving some maintenance attention and seen here taxiing for some engine runs with a temporary prop installed.

One of only two Cessna 310's in Country is ZK-DEM2  (c /n 310Q-0765) of Photo Survey Ltd of North Shore. (The other is Cessna 310P ZK-DTM2 - there is also the close cousin Cessna 320E ZK-EGN2).
