This is becoming a yearly post as I have posted on the 2020 and 2021 flyins at Mata. Leo Johns' airstrip offers nice photography opportunities, so here are some of this year's attending aircraft:
The first arrival for the scones with jam and cream was John Wiessing and Sally Rae in John's Magni M 24 gyro ZK-MGI
Next to arrive was Paul Hayden in John Finlayson's Just Super STOL ZK-ZOE, using the opposite vector as there was no wind.
Malcolm Forsyth flew up from North Shore in his newly acquired A22 LS Foxbat ZK-LFD
The Whangarei Flying Club's new Tecnam P 92 Eaglet ZK-TNZ2 ferried club members across the 5 and a half nautical miles from Whangarei airport.
A Tiger Moth is a bit of a rarity at Mata. Jim Schmidt flew up from Kaipara Flats in ZK-CCQ
After a nice BBQ lunch it was time to depart - Wally Pendray leaves for Whitianga in his Ultravia Pelican Club GS ZK-MAL2
It turned out to be a very good decision to postpone the flyin for 2 weeks, after the remains of tropical cyclone Cody swept through on the original scheduled date.
