Pukekohe Wings & Wheels 1970s

Two Cessna twin engine aircraft doing their bombing run at a Pukekohe Wings & Wheels event.
I would put the date as March of 1977.
(I could well be erroneous on that date)
The nearest aircraft is Cessna 414 ZK-KSW c/n 414-0454 which had been test flown in the USA as N1661T and ferried to Bankstown, Australia, and became VH-THBon 29-05-1974.
I first noted it in NZ in July 1976 before it became ZK-KSW on 25-08-76 for Wright Machinery Ltd of Penrose.
Dennis Thompson International Ltd moved it offshore on 19-11-1979 when it was ferried through Norfolk Island back to Australia. Its NZ registration was cancelled on 22-11-1979 for it to pick up its old registration of VH-THB2 on 13-12-1979.
By mid 1994 it was in Singapore as 9M-BAR and then it went to Canada as C-GTMJ from 15-10-1999.

The second aircraft is the Cessna 340 ZK-DSD c/n 340-0251.
This was tested in the US and flown to NZ as N69429, reaching Ardmore on 09-03-1974 and became ZK-DSD on 29-04-1974 to W D Bremner Ltd who traded as the Bremworth Carpets Manufacturing Co.
It was exported and went back to the States, was cancelled from the NZ register on 09-04-1980 and became N123KK on 11-04-1980. It was written of in December 2016.

  1. I remember being at Pukekohe that day and as a youngster was amazed at the C414 doing a pass by itself and doing a roll at what seemed like quite a low altitude. Anyone else remember that!!!

  2. I was there that day and if memory serves me correctly, the C414 did a solo pass at the end which included a roll at what seemed to be quite a low altitude.
