Barrier Air

A visit to AKL saw the Barrier Air Cessna 208B Caravan fleet of ZK-SDB, SDC & SDD lined up ready for today's flights

First off the rank was the latest addition to the fleet, ZK-SDD,  which was with Sounds Air in a former life as ZK-SAW,  and added to the Barrier Air fleet in October.

Four Vans and a Tecnam

Saturday brought a small gathering of Vans aircraft at Pauanui comprising RV8 ZK-WLK, RV7 ZK-WLL and RV6 ZK-VRV

And they were joined shortly thereafter by RV8 ZK-EYT from North Shore

Not often seen is the Tecnam P2002 ZK-TBK from Whakatane.  This was imported in 2003 and has retained the same owner.

Turbulents ZK-BWE and ZK-CWE at Whangarei

Following on from my recent post on the Druine Turbulent ZK-CWE, blog follower and Jodel flyer Steve Gilliam has sent photos of the 2 Turbulents together:

Pauanui

Of the visitors to the airfield this week a couple have not been noted here before, and also havent appeared on this blog.

The first of these was the Bantam B22S ZK-MLK which is based at Te Kowhai, and was built back in 2001.

Reflective of an increasing number of twins visiting the airfield this summer was Beech 58 Baron ZK-OSL up from Tauranga.   This was imported from Australia back in 2000.

Christchurch Heli Centre departures.

A quick stop at the Christchurch Heli Centre this afternoon caught these two departing with seconds of each other.

 Robinson R44 Raven II ZK-IGR (c/n 12262) of Helicopters South Canterbury 2015 Ltd heading out for home near Tinwald.

Christchurch Helicopter Ltd's Hughes 369E ZK-HSC3 (c/n 04009E) with spray gear at the ready heading of westward to work !

Both have appeared here before.

Pauanui Waterways

As well as the airfield Pauanui has a large waterways development and some of the owners commute to their house and boat by way of their helicopter.    The most regular of these is Hopper Developments with their Bell 206L-1 LongRanger ZK-ITK,  the company being the originators and developers of Pauanui.

Other regulars to the Waterways include Bell 206B ZK-IMB,  AS355F-1 ZK-HYJ,  EC120B  ZK-IKF and IZG,  and R44 ZK-HRR

A visitor today from Coromandel was the EC130T-2 ZK-IEC.

Druine Turbulent ZK-CWE at Whangarei

I have posted previously about the pair of Turbulents that were owned by Bruce Shepherd of Whangarei - ZK-BWE and ZK-CWE which sport nearly identical colour schemes.  For ZK-BWE see HERE and for ZK-CWE see HERE

Bruce Shepherd has retired from flying and on 23/7/18 he sold ZK-CWE to Scott Neill of Auckland.  Scott is currently learning the art of single seat VW taildragger flying and ZK-CWE has been out and about at Whangarei as in this recent photo by Rusty Russell, taken on 30/12/18.

1st Fly-in in the World 2019

Hosted by the Central Hawkes Bay Aero Club at Waipukurau and billed as the first fly-in in the world for 2019 the event attracted over 50 aircraft of a wide variety of types. Some of these are new to the blog including the ICP Savannah S ZK-CCR registered to a Featherston owner in June 2018.

Vans RV12 UL ZK-DMB registered to a Hastings owner in July 2016

TL3000 Sirius ZK-KKQ from Masterton,  which was ZK-EBG in a previous life

Zenair CH701 STOL ZK-OUZ registered in December 2015 to a Levin owner

And the rarely seen PZL Koliber ZK-RTB from Greta Valley

Nothing to do with aircraft, but uniquely New Zealand.  Happy New Year to all our readers, especially those from overseas who may not know that this is the longest place name in the world.  It is on Route 52 (the former State Highway 52) South of Porangahau in Central Hawkes Bay.  Click to enlarge and you might even be able to read the meaning.
