 With a belly full of fuel and a rising sun,

Tony Quayle in his Jodel D.11 ZK-DYB (c/n AACA/181) clears vector 02 at Ashburton

and heads towards its home at Paraparaumu last Monday at the end of the SAA fly-in.
With a couple of trophies.

 The Peter and Bruce Clulow Cub Crafters CC11-160 ZK-PBC (c/n CC11-00194)  was up from Wanaka.

 Then we have the Sounds Air Pilatus PC12/45 ZK-PLT c/n 379.

 Chris Anderson's Zenith CH701 STOL ZK-TIA c/n 7-4514 - was another of the Rangiora mob.

And the local Avro Anson ZK-RRA was out for the day.

 Maule M-5-235 ZK-DWR is c/n 7234C as listed with Pegasus Aviation Ltd of Rangiora.

 The local Van Asch Grigg Partnerships Cessna 180 ZK-FDO is c/n 50017.

 Deane Philip in his Honda Viking powered Zenith CH701 STOL ZK-JUG c/n 7-6067.

From the local Marlborough Aero Club came the Cessna 172 ZK-OMR.

Savannah at Ashburton SAA Fly In last weekend.

Following on from the earlier post on ZK-MYN at NZAS (seen here ) Westwind Aviation Ltd set up a display centered around this demonstrator and a partially constructed fuselage.

The Company demonstrator ICP Savannah S ZK-MYN (c/n 14-11-54-0359) was first registered to Philip Seale on 19-01-2016.

Tony Den Haan had his recently completed Savannah S example ZK-BIC2 (c/n 14-11-54-0359) on site for the Saturday.

The South Eyre Trust also fronted up on the Saturday with their XL model ZK-CVK2 (c/n 10-7-51-916).

Michael Glen was also on the field with his XL example ZK-MHG (c/n 09-02-51-809).

And the demo partially assembled rear fuselage was for all to see.

And the John Anderson Piper PA-25-235 ZK-CIQ (c/n 25-3128).

Healthy Bastards last weekend at NZOM # 1

The Healthy Bastards Bush Pilots Comps was held at Omaka last Saturday (February 4th)

Four Cubs -

 ZK-BOY is PA-18A-150 (c/n 18-6172) - locally based with Darlington Drilling and Piling Ltd.

 ZK-BQV is c/n 18-5546 and is listed with the Henwood's of Hamilton.

 ZK-BTX is c/n 18-7309) and is Bruce Coulter's machine.

From Rangiora came the BVJ Syndicates ZK-BVJ (c/n 18-6180).

Upcoming RNZAC National Competitions at Taumarunui

The Taumarunui Aero Club is hosting the RNZAC National competitions next week from the 13th to the 19th of February.  Last weekend a few visitors were checking out the lie of the land.

Cessna 180A ZK-CDY from Te Awamutu came and went.

 Locally owned Cessna 172N ZK-EJS arrived back from Whakatane.

Tecnam P2002JF Sierra ZK-MEL was down from Tauranga.  This aircraft was previously ZK-ROZ.

And the Tauranga Aero Club's Cessna A152 ZK-NPL was also doing local flying.

We trust all goes smoothly for the RNZAC Nationals.

Minicab ZK-LDL For Sale at Taumarunui

When I was at Taumarunui with Howard Bradley last weekend, he mentioned that he was wanting to sell his nice low hours Minicab ZK-LDL (c/n AACA 402).  It is now registered as a Class 2 microlight.

ZK-LDL resting in the Taumarunui sun.  The registration letters LDL stand for Linda and Dan Long.  Dan Long was a cabinet maker from Taihape and Linda was his wife.

 The O-200 engine has had a complete top overhaul with new cylinders.

And the panel is comprehensive and nicely laid out.

Jodel D 9 ZK-KMM at Taumarunui 5-2-2017

Let me do a little skiting.  Sunday 5/2/17 was an amazing day for flying at Taumarunui and a perfect day for me to fly my Jodel D 9 ZK-KMM for the first time - 33 years after it had first flown!

First thing, open up the hangar.

Previous owner Howard Bradley has re-named Jodie as Honey Bebe.

What a feeling as we rose above the hills to a magnificent vista of the mountains!

ZK-KMM (AACA 283) has now flown 935 hours which must put it among the higher hour original VW powered AACA Amatuer Built Aircraft.  It is now registered as a Class 1 microlight and is still pretty original.
