The latest addition to the Wanganui Aero Club is the Piper PA-18-95 Super Cub ZK-BTU (c/n 18-6233). This went new to the Hawkes Bay and East Coast Aero Club at Hastings in April 1958 and pretty much remained with them until going private in 2009. It joined the WU Aero Club on 28-09-2017.

  1. good to see BTU alive and well. Logged a few hours on this aircraft while living in HB in the '70s

  2. This aircraft had left the HB EC AC by the mid 80s. It was owned by a local farmer in the district.

  3. Yes was registered to John Russell of Tunanui Station (over near Mahia Beach)in January 1980 but I understand was available for use by the HB and EC AC. It was listed back to Air Hawkes Bay Ltd in 2008, then sold to Gunther Kothen of Waiuku in July of 2009. So maybe I was a bit liberal with my 1958 to 2009 statement.

    1. Haha, no stress. John farmed at Sherenden up the Taihape road to the west of Hastings, Tuna Nui Station. The farm near Mahia is Tahaenui at Nuhaka owned by John Bayley, who never owned an aircraft. Done many hours is this aircraft, a great little aircraft that never let me down.

    2. Well sprinkle me with bread crumbs and bake me for 40 minutes.
I seem to recall a Tuna Nui about four clicks inland from Mahanga Beach - had an airstrip beside the road about half a click north of the buildings.I am talking 1970 ish here.
      Cheers
