Faux SAANZ Flyin at Hawera 10-3-2018

With the cancellation of the SAANZ flyin at Waipukurau over the weekend, Peter Nunn from New Plymouth organised an alternative flyin at Hawera, where the weather forecast was better.  It turned out that way with a stunning day on the Saturday and I heard that the Sunday was pretty good too.  I don't know what the weather turned out to be like at Waipukurau, but it certainly would have been marginal in the days leading up to the cancelled flyin.

With the flyin just down the road, Nick Furmage flew down from Stratford in the Aero Club's Zenith CH 601 to have a look:

About 25 aircraft were there when Nick arrived, including quite a few from Tauranga as well as the Wilkinsons from North Shore and Rex Newman from Omaka.

The Hawera Aero Club's new Aeroprakt A 32 Vixxen ZK-VHC (c/n 040) was outside.

 As was the resident R & B Bearhawk ZK-PBH (c/n P308).

New Highlander ZK-JUS

Just Aircraft Highlander N419EC (c/n JA183-01-09) was assembled at Matamata in early January.

It was registered as ZK-JUS on 1/3/18, to R C Donovan of Paeroa.  It is now at Solo Wings at Tauranga, as photo'd yesterday 9/3/18 showing off its folding wing capability.  Thanks for the photos Richard and Peter.

Popping up daisies YES

Looks like the Beechcraft 76 Duchess ZK-YES (c/n ME-29) is becoming the latest 'tie down queen' at Christchurch International.

Of 1978 creation it wore three US registrations before moving down to Australia in 1990 to become VH-YES.

It drifted across into Auckland on 26-12-1992 and became ZK-YES on 03-12-1992 to Murray Haybittle and Jim Lyver who traded as the Ardmore Flying School.

It had a string of operators including Flight 2000 Ltd/Future Flight from March 2001; Simuflight (NZ) Ltd from mid-2002; McAlpine Aviation Training (NZ) Ltd from December 2003; Executive Flight Services Ltd in July 2004; Eagle Flight Training Ltd from August 2004 and Executive Flight Services Ltd from November of 2014 - All at Ardmore.

Latest listed owner is NZ School of Flying Ltd of Christchurch from 20-03-2017.

Schweizer 269C ZK-HVM.

The Schweizer 269C c/n S1301 was built in 1988.

The first reference I can find for it lists it as F-GHSS with Aero International France.

Next in line were Azur Aero Services of Guadeloupe.

 After twenty eight years on the French register it was sold in mid-2016 and became SE-JYY with Savback Helicopters AB who are helicopter sales specialists. It gained its Swedish CofA in November 2016 by which time it had accrued about 5500 hours. .

 It next pops up at Heli Maintenance Ltd at Christchurch International and gets registered as ZK-HVM4 to John McArthur of Clyde.

John has been the proud owner of the Piper PA-18A-150 ZK-DFO since February of 1975.

The Schweizer gained its NZ CofA on 16-02-2018.

ZKs-RVE at Paraparaumu

Copied from Facebook is David Boles De Boer's Vans RV 9A ZK-RVE2.  The photo was taken by Trudi Steel at the Paraparaumu Airport Open Day on 3 March.

 Vans RV 9A ZK-RVE2 (c/n 91391)at Paraparaumu.

And the first ZK-RVE was also a Vans and also based at Paraparaumu:  Bryan Pool's RV 3 ZK-RVE.  This aircraft is now displayed hanging from the roof at the Classic Flyers Museum at Tauranga.

Timaru 1st March 2018 # 1

The New Zealand National Flying Championships.

Held at Timaru last weekend.

Follows is a selection of aircraft noted on Thursday the 1st and Friday the 2nd of March 2018.

 Cessna 172M ZK-DKM (c/n 17261764) arrived in NZ aboard the Austral Endurance on 15-07-1973, was registered to Rex Aviation (NZ) Ltd on the 18th, and first flew and obtained its N Z CofA on 03-07-1973 03-08-1973.

It went to Queenstown for the Wakatipu Aero Club followed by Central Shearing Co Ltd of Middlemarch from October 1979. Less than a year later (July 1980) it was on the books of Dalhoff and King Aviation Ltd of Ardmore before transferring to Motor Holdings (Aviation) Ltd in May of 82. 

John Penno of Mosgiel took it up from November 1982 before it shifted to the Otago Aero Club at Taieri in February of 1986.

It went to private ownership from April of 1991. It was listed to its current owner Mike Punch on 24-12-2009.

The well known De Havilland DH82A 'Tiger 43'  [aka ZK-BRL] is c/n DHNZ123 and has been listed with East Canterbury Aviation Ltd of Rangitata Island since 18-09-2007.

 Down from the Marlborough Aero Club at Omaka was the fixed gear Aerospool Dynamic WT9 ZK-DYZ  (c/n DY146/2006).

 Tecnam P2002 Sierra ZK-LSF (c/n 486) has been with Simon Ford of Porirua since new on 04-04-2012.

A local out on the line up was the Rusty Sullivan Rans S-6ES Coyote II ZK-TPC (c/n 04991316ES) showing for the first time its larger wheels.

Timaru Thursday 1st March 2018 # 2

 The Tauranga Flight Hire Piper PA-28-161 Warrior II ZK-EQZ (c/n 28-8116112) came on to the NZ register with Airwork (NZ) Ltd of Christchurch on 31-03-1981. 

It went to Wamcorp of Lower Hutt and then to Feast Group Ltd of Wellington from September of 1989. From August 1989 it was listed with General investments Ltd of Wellington followed by Mike  K Dorrian (Wellington Flight Centre) of Seatoun, Wellington from March of 1991. It was listed to Tauranga Flight Hire on 21-10-1994.

 Piper PA-28-140 Cherokee ZK-ECY (c/n 28-7325630) first appeared with the Whenuapai Aviation Syndicate on 13-11-1974 and moved to W F Thompson of Auckland in December of 1978.

In October of 1982 it moved on to R M Danzey-Bergman and J S Bergman  and then to M F R Simich and A C Edwards from November 1983. 

Then we see it with DeKam Holdings Ltd from July 1987 followed by the ECY Syndicate of Thames in May of 1998. Gary Nash of Auckland listed it from 20-12-1998 until selling it on when he acquired the Beech Sundowner ZK-DVH. The Cherokee went back to Thames to Stuart Read from March 3rd 2000 and then to Dennis Greathead of Aria in May of 2001. Current owner Evan Harris of Ohaupo took it over from 21-01-2010.

The latest addition to the Wanganui Aero Club is the Piper PA-18-95 Super Cub ZK-BTU (c/n 18-6233). This went new to the Hawkes Bay and East Coast Aero Club at Hastings in April 1958 and pretty much remained with them until going private in 2009. It joined the WU Aero Club on 28-09-2017.

Timaru on Thursday 1st March 2018 # 3

 The Cessna 172N ZK-TAB (c/n 17273811) is a recent returnee to the Tauranga Aero Club (Inc).

Some of you older persons may remember that this was ZK-EYC from 1982 through until it was acquired by the Club on 11-12-1996. It was re-registered the same day as ZK-TAB. 

It has been operated from Tauranga ever since by three other operators - returning to the Club on 01-10-2017.

 As you can guess - this Cessna 152 ZK-NPK (c/n 15284361) was originally with the New Plymouth Aero Club (Inc). It is a 1980 model which was registered here on 12-08-2008.

It has been with Air Hawkes Bay Ltd of Hastings since March of 2017.

 Maule MX-7-180A ZK-MUL (c/n 20052C) came to NZ as a ten year old in 2007 and was listed with current owner Shane Anderson of Great Barrier Island from 11-06-2015.

The Harman Rocket II ZK-RMD (c/n HR2-187-08) was built by 'Rocket Man Dave' Simpson and first flew on 13-05-2008. It was sold to Ed Nieman of Brighton in March of 2015.

Timaru on Thursday March 1st # 4

 Cessna A152 Aerobat ZK-TAY2  (c/n A1520921) is a 1979 model which began its NZ career as ZK-NPL with the New Plymouth Aero Club (Inc) from 29-07-2008.

It moved over to the Tauranga Aero Club (Inc) from 06-08-2013 and was re-registered to ZK-TAY2 on 18-07-2017.

 Two different Robins types to ponder. 

Above is the Robin R2160 ZK-TZD (c/n 358) as listed with R B and J F Pearce of Whangaparaoa.

Below we have the Robin R2120U ZK-TZK (c/n 362) of the North Shore Aero Club (Inc).

Note the different size and shape of the rudder and the rear under fuselage strake on TZD.

Also the 'power hump' on the cowling of TZD and the different outlets for the engine exhaust.

 The Cessna 180 ZK-WGT is c/n 30012 making it the earliest production 180 in NZ.

It is however a late arrival - joining the register on 05-01-2007 with Wendy and George Thompson of Otorohanga.

Timaru on Thursday 1st March # 5

 Two visitors noted where the Beechcraft G58 Baron N298WA (c/n TH-2298) which has been NZ based since mid-2011.

 Stopping briefly for fuel was the Eurocopter AS 350 BA ZK-HMG2 (c/n 2647) of Prosser Heli Ag Ltd of Fairlie.

Cessna A150L Aerobat ZK-TWT (c/n A1500369) came to NZ from Australia in 1994 to become ZK-YFA. 

After a rework by Bryn Lockie at Parakai it was re-listed as ZK-TWT on 10-12-2004.

It joined the South Canterbury Aero Club (Inc) on 31-03-2017 although I believe it was delivered to Timaru on 02-07-2014.
