Later in the day he took off for Kerikeri where he had booked customs for Monday morning, and on Monday 9 June he flew from Kerikeri to Norfolk Island. Then after what I assume was weather delays, he flew yesterday 17 June from Norfolk to Coolangatta on the Gold Coast.
Andrew will register his Sling in Australia so it will be cancelled from our register in due course. And he asked me not to do this post until he had arrived in Oz. Congratulations Andrew on a pretty impressive accomplishment.
Thanks to you and numerous others who assisted me with this crossing in so many ways. I spent 8 days on Norfolk Island which was mostly waiting for the worst of the westerlies to abate. But the island is a very beautiful, historic, quirky, friendly place. I was extremely grateful to an island resident who generously lent me the use of a house and car while I was there. By lucky co-incidence, he and his partner were overseas at the time. The secret to a stress-free Tasman crossing lies in the planning. My total flying time was about 10 hours, but the planning was probably double that!! If anyone else is planning this crossing, I am very happy to share what I learned, hints, tips, all the admin & procedures etc. You can get my contact details from Keith Morris.
