Question time # 134 resolved.

Yes Peter. Spot on as I would expect.
It is indeed the shamrock on the nosewheel undercarriage door of Vickers V807 Viscount ZK-BRF (c/n 283) as seen at the Ferrymead Museum in Christchurch.

For an earlier view of this aircraft check out :-
Now if this was a more recent photograph you would be excused for noticing a very large crack down the concrete wall behind BRF from the recent series of earthquakes.

Question time # 134

What is the significance of this floral piece of tagging ?
What aircraft type is it to be found on ?
What registration would you put on this aircraft ?
Where would you expect to find this aircraft ?

On its way.

On Monday 02-08-2011 Robinson R44 Astro ZK-HAB2 (c/n 0630) was finally packed into a container at Heli Maintenance in Christchurch, bound for Durban. It has been parked up since about mid June, just about out of hours. I await with interest the arrival of the "new" ZK-HAB.

ZK-AQX at North Shore 01-08-2011

Jean210 has sent in this photo showing the Erco 415-D ZK-AQX (c/n 4780) as seen at North Shore on August the 1st.
It has featured previously in these pages at :-

Two strangers at Rangiora today. 03-08-2011.

Parked in Stew Bufton's as yet unfinished hangar was the Eamond and Heleen Johnston Cessnsa 180A ZK-JMH (c/n 3281) [JMH = Johnston Motors Haast]. This airframe arrived in NZ to become ZK-OWZ (ours) on 16-10-1995 with Ski Hi Tandem Skydive until purchased by the Johnston's on 02-08-2005. Its registration was changed to JMH on 22-09-2006.
Over from Alexandra and parked at "The Landing Spot" was the Tecnam P96 Golf 100 ZK-RLS (c/n 218). Imported new for Roger L Sparks (hence RLS registration) it was listed on 25-09-2002. It moved over to the Sparks Family Trust on 10-05-2005.

A soaring we will go

A lovely day with thermals popping off over the hills to the northwest had Gerry O'Neil's DG800B ZK-GPY (c/n 8-282B190) out of its trailer and Dave Tillman's Schleicher ASH26E ZK-GRL (c/n 26111) out of its hangar. Both self launchers about to commit aviation.

A New Zealand tourist is being flown home for medical treatment after being injured in a plane crash in Vanuatu yesterday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed that five New Zealand tourists were on a small plane that crash-landed in Port Vila around 6pm (NZ time) yesterday.

A receptionist at Vila Bay Health Centre said three New Zealanders were admitted to hospital and remained in the centre's care.
An MFAT spokeswoman said one of them would be transported to New Zealand today for medical treatment.
The ministry would not confirm what injuries they had sustained.
The small air taxi-Vanuatu Cessna 207 crash landed in the Le Lagon Resort at around 6pm NZ time, New Zealand's High Commissioner in Vanuatu, Bill Dobbie, said.
He confirmed that five of the seven people onboard were New Zealanders and said the commission had provided them consular assistance.
Vanuatu Daily Post reported that the plane had run out of fuel but Air taxi-Vanuatu CEO Simon Turner said that was incorrect.
"The weather was particularly bad and visibility was low and the pilot didn't think he could make it to the runway," Turner said.
He said the pilot circled a few times before deciding to land in the golf course.
Turner said two people were taken to hospital and x-rayed and one was hospitalised with a fractured vertebra.
A local man, who lived 600 metres from where the plane landed in Port Vila, said it was raining so hard he didn't hear it come down.
He said there had been a severe tropical storm which meant there was zero visibility when the plane was attempting to land.
He said the plane hit a raised golf tee in the middle of the course which caused one of the wings to hit the ground and tip the plane onto its side.

Mysterious Agwagon

Recently I acquired some Cessna Agwagon photos that were apparently taken in the 1960s.
The quality is not great, but they do fill in some gaps.
However, I am a bit stumped by this one

If you look closely, you can see that it apparently carries the registration ZK-COR on the tail.
This poses a bit of a problem.
Back in '66, Agwagons were allotted registrations ZK-CON thru ZK-COT, but ZK-COR was not allotted. At that time, 'R' was not permitted as a last letter in a NZ registration in case of confusion during radio communication.
So this aircraft cannot be ZK-COR.
Location of the photo does look to be at Ardmore, where the bulk of the first Agwagon batch were assembled by Rex Aviation.
Maybe ZK-COR was painted on in the Cessna factory and then changed here in NZ after assembly?
If so, which registration did this aircraft then become?

ZK-COR was of course eventually allotted to the FG-1D Corsair in 2006, after the rules were changed.

Aero L29 ZK-SSU arrives at its new home.

Simon Brown of Timaru has provided these neat pics of Aero L-29 ZK-SSU (c/n 395100) arriving at its new home in Timaru on Sunday 31-07-2011. It flew from New Plymouth via Woodbourne and was met just out of Timaru by the Piper PA31-325 Navajo ZK-NOW2.
It is now housed in the same hangar as its comrade Aero L-29 ZK-VAU.
