Wings Over Wairarapa Overview

Wings Over Wairarapa 2015 was blessed with fine sunny weather, but the weather was somewhat blighted by strong North-Westerly wind conditions that kept The Vintage Aviator aircraft mostly on the ground.  A couple of TVAL aircraft flew in the Saturday display but none flew on the Friday and also on the Sunday as I understand.

I attended on the Friday and the bonus of that was that The Vintage Aviator engineering hangar (the old Air Contracts hangar), was open and I was given a friendly greeting.  But the aircraft inside the hangar were not allowed to be photographed, and these included the new DH 4 ZK-DHA2  and the new BE 2c ZK-CBE2,  plus some other very interesting aircraft in the works.

The airshow display aircraft included all the usual suspects but the DC3 in attendance this time was Air Chathams ZK-AWP which flew a group down from Auckland.

In this line-up you can see seven Harvards (in total there were nine Harvards on the field), the the Yak 3M ZK-VVS, Brendon Deere's (ITL Aviation)Spitfire Mk IX ZK-SPI and Avenger ZK-TBE2 , 2 seat Spitfire Mk IX ZK-WDQ, Mustang ZK-TAF, P 40N Kittyhawk ZK-CAG2  and The Old Stick and Rudder Company's P 40E Kittyhawk ZK-RMH and FG 1D Corsair ZK-COR, and on the end Anson Mk 1 ZK-RRA.

There were also several jets in attendance, being Vampire Mk 55 Trainer ZK-RVM, Venom Mk 1 ZK-VNM3 , two Strikemasters ZK-BAC2  and ZK-STR, and a couple of Albatros's. There were also five Yak 52s that did formation aerobatics, Beaver ZK-CKH, Dominie ZK-AKU and some lighter aircraft such as the Aeronca 100 ZK-AMW2 , Gypsy Moth ZK-ADT and Tiger Moth ZK-BLK, Doug Brookers MX-2 ZK-MXT2  and the four aircraft Vans RV formation dispaly team of RV 6 ZK-PRV, RV 7s ZK-NVS and ZK-DES3 , and RV 8 ZK-WLK.  And John Bargh flew a spirited display routine in his AT 402B Airtractor ZK-PCC2.

I did not get a close up look at the Pither Monoplane that has now been registered as ZK-JAH2 , and the Mudrovich Pearse replica ZK-RPT.

Finally the Air Force were in attendance with the supposedly final display by an Iroquois, a display by one of the new NH 90s and the first appearnce of their new Beechcraft T 6C Texan II trainers NZ1406 and NZ 1407.
