Tony McFarlin captured the Airbus A330-243 MRTT T-057 c/n 1945 arriving at Christchurch on the 14th.
MRTT is for Multinational Tanker Transport Fleet (NATO).
This first flew with the Airbus test registration of F-WWKD on 06-11-2019 and was delivered to Airbus Defence & Space on 04-12-2019 to become EC-337. It was delivered to the Royal Netherland Air Force on 01-04-2021 as T-057.
It departed Eindhoven for Brussels and Dubai on the 13th and continued on to Kuala Lumpur and Christchurch on the 14th.
It's not very "Civil" but nice! Anyone know why it is in Christchurch?
ReplyDeleteI agree.
ReplyDeleteNot very civil at all. But very interesting.
Since the shut down of the fantastic MRCAviation blog in August of 2019 - which covered international arrivals etc - AFAIK - there has been no NZ blog to cover these interesting and varied visitors.
Hence I post the Christchurch visitors - mostly thanks to Tony McFarlin's dedication - on the NZCIVAIR blog.
One wonders why the A330 was not considered by the Govt for the RNZAF as a replacement for the 757's, given how many Commonwealth and allied air forces use it. Instead they are looking at the A321XLR or 737
ReplyDeleteCivil or military, it's a great blog! Thanks for all your hard work Dave.
ReplyDeleteMulti Role Tanker Transport. Efficient that the Euro countries have a jointly shared fleet.
ReplyDeleteThere was a NATO meeting in Christchurch!
