Flying from Rangiora to Whangarei - Leg 1 NZRT - NZWU

I have already posted about Rusty Russell's and Alex Hewitt's flight from Rangiora to Whangarei yesterday to deliver the Whangarei Flying Club's new Tecnam P 92 Eaglet ZK-TNZ2 to its new home.  Like me, Rusty also takes photos along the way and I thought this selection would give a great overview of the flight and some of the amazing scenery that New Zealand has to offer from the air.  Here is the first leg of their flight:

ZK-TNZ2 ready for an early morning departure from Rangiora.

While the local Pipistrel Alpha Electro ZK-EAL4 is refuelled

Flying North over the Canterbury Plains

Getting a bit hillier!

Past the Kaikouras.

And on over Blenheim with Omaka aerodrome in the foreground and Cook Strait beyond

Picton looking lovely from 8,000 feet

While the Marlborough Sounds look clear up ahead

The sea crossing was very calm

Then after two and a half hours and a fuel burn of 40 litres, Whanganui airport is on the nose for long finals.

  1. Lovely sequence of some of the world's best scenery. Full of nostalgia for an expat.
