It is indeed the season for starlings.

 

But wait - that's not all.

 

 Below we have an opossum (Trichosurus vulpecula deceasedi) protruding from the side of old ZK-HDQ at Pukaki Airfield (Twizel) on 13-11-2011.

 A closer view shows it to actually be wire braced and bunged into the foot step as a starling deterrent.
