According to records an Australian, Gregory Rogerson, arrived in New Zealand on a working holiday in December 1981 and somewhere along the line he bought his Ultra Sports Tri Pacer Trike with a Vampyre 164 wing with him. This was when the first microlights were being registered here but he never registered his trike although it definitely flew as he was involved in a fatal accident at the Treble Cone ski-field on 15 August 1983. The trike also never had a MAANZ number.
While flying over the Treble Cone ski-field on 15 August 1983, the trike encountered turbulence which flipped it upside down several times and Gregory Rogerson was thrown out and fell to his death.
