It is indeed a Fluidyne tail wheel ski - in this case for the Piper PA-18-150 Super Cub ZK-BNW.
It was also an upside down photo. Shame on me.

The Piper PA-18-150 ZK-BNW2 c/n 18-4644/2 was built in very late 1955 and listed with the Piper test registration of N10F.
I next noted in Canada as CF-IJK with Teal Air Ltd of Winnipeg from 31-03-1957.
In December 1969 it had an incident which required a new fuselage for the rebuild - so the c/n was changed from the original 18-4644 to the non standard 18-4644/2.
It was listed to Gordon Hay of Vickers Heights, Ontario from 02-06-1975 and the registration format changed to C-FIJK
Gerry Marcil of Lewisporte, New Foundland listed it from 09-11-2016.
It was seasonally fitted with either wheels, Edo 200 floats or Schneider 4000 (wheel penetrating) skis.
Its Canadian registration was cancelled on 07-12-2020 with around 3900 airframe hours.

Its NZ certification was carried out by Drake Aviation at Barradale with its CofA being granted on 13-08-2021 and first flight being on 15-09-2021

Actually it is ZK-BNW/2. The original ZK-BNW was c/n 18-5429 registered on 13 December 1956. It was written off in an accident at Balclutha in September 1962 (refer https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/63180) and I have it as cancelled on 26 June 1963. That's my two bob's worth. Maybe that should that read chocolate fish's worth?

ReplyDeleteThe Question Time Fish Committee has decided that because the Author had mentioned "ZK-BNW/2" on one occasion in the blog post above - that you should only be allocated 'one bobs' worth of said chocolate fish.
The Committee therefore has allocated one half fish to you; but has yet to decide which half.
We have three options available.
1) Forward half.
2) Rear half.
3) Longitudinal half - either left side or right side.
Do you have any preference ?
Gosh Dave (and Question Time Fish Committee members) - there is such a wide range of choices on offer; to which I suppose could be added top or bottom half. Anyway, save the bob's worth till next time when you could send me three bobs' worth saving you excess p & p...
