I was out at the airfield this afternoon draining the oil out of my VW engine when a nice SUV drove in with a long bag on the roof rack. It turned out to be Leon Jordaan and his recently test flown Grif Italia Nano Trike ZK-LJY (c/n LJ001). It was very interesting watching him put it together:
Leon assembling his Nano Trike. He told me that he designed and built the underslung "fuselage" himself and the wing is a Grif Italia Zip wing. The whole trike weighs in at 68 Kg empty and so it would come under the Sub 70 Kg class that is available in several overseas countries (for example in the UK) but is not available in New Zealand. It is a lovely piece of kit and the engine is a Polini Thor 100 single cylinder 110 cc two stroke that weighs 13 Kg and produces 20 HP!
I wonder how long it takes to assembly before going flying?
ReplyDeleteLeon told me he can get it ready to fly in around 30 minutes
