Beech D18S N43927, c/n A 26, rumbled into Christchurch this afternoon after fifty three hours flying time from San Fransisco - including a three hour magic flight from Auckland. The pilot mentioned that today was the first time in his long flying career that he had struck carburettor icing. He is more used to flying behind fuel injected engine.
The Kiwi pilot aboard, Chris Johnston, pointed out the drop in manifold pressure.
It is due to depart for points further southwest on Wednesday.
It is indeed a Ten-Two conversion with its u/c doors and tail incidence change, three bladed props, plus new wing tips. (Ten-two's being what they called the conversions with the 10,200lb MAUW).
