Piper J-3C Cub ZK-AHC.

Piper J-3C Cub ZK-AHC (c/n 2709) first flew in the USA on 11-02-1939. It arrived in NZ in May of 39 and went to the Nelson Aero Club with whom it carried the name "Brig Arrow". It was stored during World War Two and then went to Waikato Aviation Ltd followed by numerous private owners. One of these was W J Funnell of Pahiatua (about March 1970 I think). In more recent time it has been listed with J L Peace of Manakau City from 13-05-1985; to D T Paquette on Waiheke Island from 21-12-1994 and then to Venture Aviation (John Funnell) of Taupo since 13-09-2004. I have heard that it has not flown for some time due to engine problems !
Top photo was taken at Dannevirke on 02-03-1969 and the lower pic was shot at Taupo just prior to Christmas by Henry M.

  1. Thanks for the picture!

I have a model of AHC at home, hand carved by a man who flew her in the late 40s or early 50s. I offered him a spin in a super cub recently, but he's happier with his feet on the ground these days.

It's good to see an old girl like that parked safely in a hangar rather than rotting away outside. Although I hope she gets to fly again someday soon.
