On 15-01-1962 it was back with Airwork (NZ) Ltd of Christchurch, and after a brief lease to the Auckland Aero Club between 21-04-1962 and 15-05-62 it returned to Airwork again before joining W B Easton of Dannevirke from 20-07-62. Here it replaced the Tiger Moth ZK-AZY. The Caribbean was in turn replaced by the Cessna 180 ZK-BGI.
The above pic was taken at Wellington in October 1963.
In March of 1967 it moved to Tauranga for J C & M J Cole, replacing their PA-22 Colt ZK-BYP.
General Finance Acceptance were the registered owners from 29-05-1969 with a hire to H V Wilkins and G Bell.
It then went to H V Ryan of Waharoa from 25-05-1971 and I believe it was used by the Matamata Gliding Academy.

The Bellingham's of Pukekohe paid the bills from 15-11-1984 and about this time it was converted to a tail dragger (ala PA-20 Pacer). Note the new nose profile and wing tips.
Next noted based at Stratford with P J Newson from August 1991. It was damaged at Taupo on 30-05-92 and again at Stratford on 26-12-1995 before a move back to the Tauranga region to join J B & CA Brunskill on 01-04-2000.

ReplyDeletePaul & Philippa Hally are Airways staff members
ReplyDeleteIt was one of the participants of the Around NZ Air Race (not sure of the date off the top of my head - but around about late 2003).
ReplyDeleteIt also had the race number "54" on its tail and a large "Airways" script under its left wing.
Airways gave us a substantial amount of sponsorship at the time including the stickers as we were "Team Airways". This was for the Great NZ Air Race. The stickers remained on until we sold the aircraft (couldn't be bothered taking them off) This was a great aircraft and never failed me. Sometimes I wish I had never sold her.
ReplyDeleteNo longer Airways, after 28yrs service I resigned and now in Baghdad Iraq at the radar center. My cub is up for sale btw :-)
and in a few years time I'll be looking for a 180
Paul
Thanks for the update Paul.
ReplyDeleteI notice KEZ being for sale.
Why wait for a coupleo of years for a 180.
Get a project - something for you to work on during the heat of the day.
I see PAP out occasionally having a trundle around near the end of 29.
