Rangiora Boxing Day pie run.

I did a pie run to Rangiora today but alas there were no pies to be had.
However -
The Zenith 701 STOL breading hangar was open and four examples were on hand.
Centre stage was ZK-AMC, to the left is ZK-JUG and in the back is ZK-TIA with ZK-SLO to the right.
Trundling out is the Perry Shepard Czech Sport Cruiser ZK-CZR (c/n 06SC020).
Piper PA-28-151 Warrior ZK-DBW (c/n 7515223) from the Canterbury Warrior Syndicate was re-registered on 11-12-2015.
This was previously ZK-TGF preceded by ZK-RJD, ZK-CGD3, ZK-ZEE, ZK-MAI2 and ZK-EBW1.
That must be some sort of a record for ZK marks !
Check out previous notes on this airframe.

The Air New Zealand Sport And Social Club Southern Inc's Cessna A152 ZK-FSL (c/n A1520899) was out and about.

Aerobatic Monoplanes in New Zealand - Wanaka Sukhois and a Yak

As I am part way through a series on Aerobatic Monoplanes of New Zealand, it occurred to me that there have been several of these aircraft displayed at Warbirds Over Wanaka, so I thought I would add them to the series.  So I now include the following:

WOW 1998 featured a Sukhoi SU 31 RA 01463 flown by Nigel Arnot

Lithuanian Jurgis Kairys has been a frequent display pilot at Wanaka over the years.  In 2004 he displayed his Sukhoi SU 31 LY-LJK.

Jurgis was back in 2006 flying his SU 26 LY-AKG as part of a display pairing ...

... with Russian aerobatic champion Svetlana Kapanina flying Sukhoi SU 29 RA 3358K.  You can see Rob Fry's name on the rear of the cockpit so I assume that this was during the time he owned the aircraft in Japan.  I guess that the aircraft stayed on in New Zealand after WOW 2006 to become ZK-SUK.

AT WOW 2008, the SU 29 appeared as ZK-SUK, still with Air Bandits signage ...

... along with Jurgis Kairys flying his own design Juka LY-JKA.  You can gauge from size of the cowling covering the Vedeneyev radial engine the the Juka is smaller that the SU aircraft.

Jurgis returned again in 2010 flying his Juka, as photo'd above.

And also in 2010 he bought a back-up aircraft with him in the form of Yak 50 LY-JKF, as photo'd in a hangar at Wanaka on 15/12/09.  Can anyone confirm if this aircraft ever flew in New Zealand?

I am not totally sure if there have been any other purpose designed aerobatic monoplanes displayed at Wanaka.  Can anyone add anything to the above aircraft?

Thanks very much to Andrew Matheson and Brett for sending the great shots above, following my call for photos.

Morane-Saulnier Rallye ZK-CDF

A surprise "catch" at Hamilton on Christmas Eve was the Morane-Saulnier MS885 Rallye ZK-CDF

For a valuable history on the Rallye in New Zealand go to
http://rnzaf.proboards.com/thread/18137/morane-saulnier-rallye?page=2 and for ZK-CDF in particular scroll down to almost the bottom of the page.
Hamilton 24 December 2015.
The NZ register has eight Rallye listed:
MS880B BZZ, CBX, CDE, CKK, CKM
MS885 CDF
MS893E FOX
235E RLY

On the second day of Christmas quiz.

A red wing for you to identify.
What aircraft type is this.
And what registration would you put on it.

On the first day of Christmas quiz

This is the first of a batch of pics for you to ponder over during the next few days.
What aircraft type.
What registration.

Aerobatic Monoplanes of New Zealand (8) - Sukhoi SU 29

The Sukhoi SU 29 first flew in 1991 and was developed from the single seat SU 26, but with the use of more composite materials so that the empty weight was only increased by 50 Kg.  Both use the 9 cylinder Vedeneyev M 14P radial engine of 360 HP.  In turn the SU 29 was used as the basis for the single seat SU 31 which appeared in 1992 and which uses the 400 HP Vedeneyev M 14PF engine.

Specifications for the SU 29 are:  length 7.29 metres (23 feet 11 inches), wingspan 8.20 metres (26 feet 11 inches) and the wing area is 131 square feet.  Empty weight is 760 Kg (1,675 pounds) and MAUW is 1,100 Kg (2,425 pounds), although this is reduced for aerobatics.

We have had one Sukhoi SU 29 in New Zealand, being Rob Fry's ZK-SUK (c/n 75-01) which was first registered in 1993 as RA-7501.  It was sold to the US as N1JW and later was re-registered as N229RM.  It was then purchased by Rob Fry who registered it as RA3358K (the Russian private civil aircraft register) and was flown it in Japan for two years.

ZK-SUK was registered to Robert E Fry of Silverdale on 23/11/07.  Its career in New Zealand has been quite involved with Jurgis Kairys, who has flown at Warbirds Over Wanaka since 2004 (often in his own aircraft but sometimes flying ZK-SUK).  This was the case with above photo, taken on 6/12/08 where the aircraft is painted with Jurgis Kairys Air Bandits signage following the 2008 Warbirds Over Wanaka.

I caught up with ZK-SUK recently at its home base of North Shore airfield.  Above, Rob Fry heads out to fly the aircraft.

A close up of the canopy and the clear panels in the floor.

Taxying for take off...

And climbing out.

Jurgis Kairys has also flown other Sukhoi aerobatic aircraft at Warbirds Over Wanaka - A SU 31 in 2004 and possibly a SU 26 (can anyone confirm that?  and ideally supply a photo?).  He has also flown his Juka which was developed from the SU 31 I think.  In fact Jurgis Kairys helped Sukhoi to develop the SU 26, 29 and 31 family of aerobatic aircraft.

I think I will do another post on Aerobatic Monoplanes that have attended Warbirds Over Wanaka.  If anyone has any photos from WOW (ideally action shots), please email them and I will include them in the post.

N303KH

Bargeldo1 sent in these two photographs of Boeing 737-319 N303KH (c/n 25606) as seen at Honolulu on 21-12-2015.
Above we see N302KH (c/n 27905. No NZ connection) in the foreground with N303KH beyond.
A closer view of N303KH.
This aircraft is ex ZK-NGG.

Above a view of ZK-NGG at Rotorua on 31-03-2004.
Above - at Christchurch on 27-01-2015.
Below at Christchurch minus all ANZ markings on 21-05-2015
With its New Zealand registration cancelled on 17-06-2015 it became N303KH on 19-06-2015 listed with Aircraft 25606 LLC of Florida.
It departed Christchurch for Pago Pago and Honolulu on 24-06-2015 and went onto KF Aerospace (formally Kelowna Flightcraft) for freighter conversion.
It has since been relisted to NAS Aircraft Leasing Co LLC of Anchorage, Alaska and is on line with Aloha Air Cargo.

And Finally to Auckland International 20-12-2015

After my couple of hours at Ardmore, I nipped across to Auckland International to pick up said grandson.  I had not seen a Jetstar Q 300 before as the services started while I was overseas.  It is not ZK but it is New Zealand civil aviation.
